First problem on my Breakout
You ain't kidding. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck. I bought a new Ninja 14R last year. Wouldn't you know it, the next day I took it out for a spin the transmission gears kept popping out of gear. The dealer ended up pulling the engine/transmission out to replace a faulty shift fork. It was out for 2 weeks. I was pissed. I called Kawi to complain about my bike breaking only after one day. Their comment, "that is what warranty is for and No, you are not getting a new bike from us".
So, a bad fuel pump after 1K miles, it sux, but I'm not pissed. Just a little annoyed because my Breakout is my main bike. I rarely ride my Ninja now. It's just too uncomfortable.

If it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all...
Hope the dealer gets it fixed quick!...
I called the dealer on Friday to get an update. The service guy said the bike's pump made the noise in the morning, however once they parked it outside in the sun the pump sounded fine. Weird... So the wife and I stopped in again on Saturday to buy and order some stuff for her Harley, saw the service guy and asked about my bike. He said the bike is in the shop, I can come in to take a look. So I did, sure enough in the cool shop the fuel pump started grinding away. The tech said it seems the pump assembly might be grounded on something. Not sure what that means, but he asked me to stick around I couldn't had to get to work. So hopefully I will hear something early this week. I couldn't pick her up until next Thursdays. The guys there are great, so no worries but it does suck to have my new Breakout out of service when it's nice outside.
My bike is still at the dealer. I dropped the bike off about a week and a half ago. I called earlier this week and spoke to the service manager. I was told it was indeed a fuel pump and the pump had to be ordered. I called again late this week and was told still no pump. This sux. I was told by the service manager that this fuel pump has been on back order for a while. But it is on its way. So hopefully by the end of the week, all will be ok.

They can't come up with parts for a new bike they sold you within a couple of days? If a replacement pump exists anywhere in the US, it could be over-nighted.
At the very least, I'd be demanding a loaner.

I called again today to double check on my stuff, one of the parts guys physically went over to the special order bin and saw that the pump was in. So I spoke to the service manager and I asked him about getting my bike done, I was then told as soon as a "lift" is free they will get the fuel pump installed. So, I guess I have to wait. The problem is, because of their operating hours, the time I have to pick up the bike is limited. I was heading there today to pick up the stuff my wife and I ordered, but I couldn't make it, so we will go tomorrow. I hope it's done.

Now this is the greaseball in me talking.....
I'd give the service manager a $20 hand shake and I guarantee it would get done right away.....especially a little job!
I do this with my bike and my car. Smoke say its dumb, but I always get what I want.

Funny you mentioned this but I always tip the service advisor. I usually do this after the service. I just called the dealer again, I was told the technician just finished the job. It's a little late now and I can't make it on time so I will just pick it up tomorrow. (Sunday)

Update, I picked up my bike on Sunday morning. And.......I turned the ignition switch on, turn the run switch on and................Oh Boy Not Good. The fuel pump immediately started to grind. I went back into the dealership to look for the service advisor. I told him the fuel pump is still making that same grinding noise. He told me he will have to contact H-D tech support line. I left my fuel tank low so the service department would have an easier time working on my bike.
I decided to just take my bike home and fill her up hoping that it would get better. Once I got home, I parked the bike in my garage. Monday morning, I crossed my fingers and turned the ignition and run switch on. And guess what...........Nope, no good. The priming of the fuel pump is just as loud as before. No better, no worse. I once again recorded the loud grinding pump noise. This time I also took a video of the odometer showing the current mileage of 1249. I just uploaded the video to youtube. Hope some here can shed some light on this issue. As I mentioned, once the bike is run for about 30 minutes it will quiet down. However, once it cools down again, it will start making the grinding noise. So, I guess the new fuel pump that the dealer installed did not repair the issue. Fuel Pressure Regulator resonating sound? Or does that come with the new pump?
