Did they not try it before givin it back to you?-dayuum I would be pissed
I did wonder about that. I asked the service advisor about it. He said the tech did try it and it was ok. But, unfortunately when I went to pick it up and I turned the ignition and run switch on, the loud fuel pump noise was there. No better no worse.
I didn't get pissed, it won't solve anything. I figure if I was nice about it, the service department will do their best to resolve it. (Hopefully).
That's clearly not normal. Mine is quiet enough that outside I can just hear it doing it's thing. More a whirrrr than the noise yours is making.
I would agree. The fuel pump on my Breakout used to be very quiet when it was priming. It was no more than a high pitch hissing noise. And then, all of a sudden it started to make that terrible noise.

Honestly, as long as I feel I'm being treated fairly, I don't get upset. I didn't want to leave my bike for another week. My wife and I are planning to go on a fathers day rally with it this Sunday. It's called the Kelsey Charity Run. I just hope it doesn't leave us stranded. (That would suck). But as far as rentals, my dealer doesn't offer one. I wouldn't think it's necessary. I just want my bike fixed. If I really needed to ride, I still have my sportbike. The problem is, my once young body cannot ride in that position for very long.
Update. I called the dealer today and told them that my Breakout fuel pump while priming is just as loud as before. The manager told me there is new HD Fat Boy that is making the same noise as my Breakout. He said it was doing the same thing as mine. So at least I know it's not just me. I hope to get this resolved. So I'm curious as to what could be causing that terrible grinding noise in my Breakout's fuel tank.
I will keep my I out for that noise. Bought the bike 2 weeks ago and have 1340 miles with no issues yet on my BRKOUT. More to follow if problem occurs for me.

Mine makes the same noise after it's been sitting for a while. After it does it the first time, it's good to go until it sits for a while again.
For giggles, I just went out to the garage and tested it. Sure enough ... the first "pressurizing" it sounded just like yours, then the next five times, it was just the quiet whistle.
Never thought about it being a problem until you raised it here.
