Deuce owners
i'm about the same size and those minimalist seats just wouldn't do it for me more than around town. running the mustang solo as well. very comfortable and does seem to push me forward just a little and i sit a little higher (don't like that part so much).
drag bars on my bike so no idea about stock bars....
I put the HD 'Reach' bars on my Deuce. They come back about 1 1/2" and it helped to relieve the pain between my shoulder blades and neck pain. I use a Sundowner when my wife rides with me. It's much more comfortable for both of us, but I like the look of the stock seat much better.
Last year I picked up a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady with one backrest. I find that it's pretty comfortable, but really don't like the look of it much. It appears really thick when viewed from the side, which is probably why it's comfortable. But I think the look is fugly.

Change your bars until you find control and comfort. Do the same with your seat. I had a Mustang and it tilted up in the nose and made me fall backward off the bike. Hated it. I decided that seats that kept me flat and balanced would probably be better.
Change your pegs until you feel "planted" with lots of weight on the pegs for secure feeling and in the right place so you can shift and brake as easily as a racer. You don't want awkward location to interfere with operation and you don't want them so high they throw you off balance.
I extended the brake pedal pad outward to reach my big toe. I swapped out the air cleaner for an old school "domed" type which was on my first Harley back in 1964. No interference any longer with operation of foot brake or shifter at all...
Took me seven years of experimenting to find a set up that I have nothing left to complain about. My buddies laughed as they spent all their money on chrome and "I am an American" logos stenciled all over their bikes and bodies. Oh well, I am a rebel and have to do things "my way," haha. So much for being a conformist "Harley guy."
I bought four seats, five sets of bars and got lucky on the forward controls: one three inch forward set of adaptors did it the first time.
Turns out my bike can be run wide open, feels great leaned waaaay over in corners, and I can sit on the saddle for ten hours without getting "monkey butt." I have no idea what "monkey butt" is but I have heard that term used. And it sounds nasty. So I don't have it.
My average day trip is 200-300 miles. I have done more. I use my Deuce for what it is---a big heavy comfortable Road Bike.
Others think a Deuce should be a pretty bar-hopper.
To each his own.
Final setup: Harley Sundowner seat. Four inch rise fairly narrow Z-bars from J and P mounted to stock pull-backs that came with the bike. Yes, I DID try other risers... Three inch forward one inch lower Kuryakin forward control adaptors. No new cables needed.
I am six foot with a 34 inch inseam.
Hope that was worth all the chit-chat. Good luck. Deuce is absolutely one of a kind great bike.

I've got the same issue with my deuce, I get it in the neck and shoulder blades. I've been thinking about doing the same thing you did with the bars. This might be a dumb question, but was it a pain to change the bars? Just wondering if you had to extend all the wires, brake line and clutch cable? Thanks in advance for the info Deucedog!!

I had purchased the 4" extension wire set, but didn't need it. I also purchased the braided cables. I probably didn't need them, but I wanted them for the braided look instead of the black.
