Default Change clutch cable ?? 2003 FatBoy

Can the clutch cable be changed on side stand without draining tranny? The reason being is I don't want to buy another quart of fluid at $10.

You have to pull the side cover off to change the clutch cable. It threads into the cover and you have to unhook it from the roller ball deal. Forgive me, the technical name of it escapes me at the moment...

Yea, Ive done it many times, they are called the ***** and ramps, but, my question was regarding not draining the tranny. Thanks anyway. I guess I need to hear from someone who has done it without pulling drain plug and if they were successful.

You don't have to drain the tranny, no, but you're going to lose fluid when you crack the cover. Not only will you have to replace the fluid, but also a new gasket and an o-ring for the clutch cable...

Before you do anything, put the bike tires on a 2x4. This will make the bike lean just a hair further to the left, though not excessively.

Doing so, you'll lose very little transmission fluid, and if you're relatively quick about the cable change, you'll be just fine. Put one of the wife's Tupperware bowls underneath to capture and reuse the little bit that does drip out!

What he said. I did mine last winter. You loose maybe 2 oz. tops. But come on - $10.

Either that, or you just drain the tranny into a clean bowl and reuse the oil when you're done.
