i spent a weekend on a vrod with a windshield and noticed the wobble so it has to be the shield. the air comes around the shield in such a way that it causes problems.

Not a Custom... but I had a wobble at 83+. Had five 1/4 oz balance weights on front wheel. Took the weights off and took wheel in for balancing.Told them about the wobble.Service gave back the wheel and said it was balanced perfectly without any weights..(and suggested other possibilities, not knowing that I had removed the weights previously) took bike up to 85 and no more wobble....check your wheel balance....

I have not had any problem with wobble on my '07 FXSTC (no windshield) except for when there are heavy grooves in the freeway. The GF has complained that since I put the windshield on her Sporty, she got wobble when she gets over 80.

I am not the most mechanically inclined person, so I don't really know what the parts are called. I took my bike in for the 1k service last week (08' Custom). I mentioned the front end wobble and that the handle bars don't seem strait to me. After they were done I spoke with the mechanic and he said the adjustment was wrong on the handle bar screws and the front bearing screw (the thing in the main shaft at the top) was loose. When I took it home I noticed a difference in the wobble.

As some have said, with that skinny 90 in the front, you will get more of the road "trying to lead you" in rough pavement, sand and gravel. Just hang on tight and keep the power up. It is just like dirt biking, it will power its way thru.

NOW, as far as wobble, I took my windshield off one day and I rode in the flats til I BURIED the speedo, in 6th. Smooth new road, I musta been doing 130! 'Course, I'm laying on the tank, rice style, helmet and full leathers, but I had to know how fast the bike would go! No tach, but I chickened out then, before I felt the engine drop out. I think these FXSTC's will go as fast as ya want 'em to. By the math, at 5500 rpm, around 145 mph?Who knows when the wobble may start going on there?I ain't crazy enough to find out...

NO wobble at around 130, tho.

THE WINDSHIELD: With it on, at 105, I get a BAD wobble, at a burst to 110, that is all I can handle. I have a Memphis Fats 15" (Yeah, I'm only 5'6") BUT they are much thicker and stiffer than a HD shield, so they don't flex as much. Therefore, more wobble.

All I can say is that if you are going 90 plus with a stiff windshield, expect some buffeting. Any faster than 100, you must be as crazy as me, and know how ta handle it!!!

Yes I noticed a wobble on mine '07 FXST from day1. I have a windshield but cant stand it fells like i'm getting punched in the face bad. The windshield is about 3" too tall I plan on cutting it down. http://tidyville.roadstarclinic.com/windshield.html as for the bike took it in for the1k service they found a loosehead bolt. $38 to fix but it was covered - no charge no wobble

I've noticed that when I let go of the bars. Was used to my Hayabusa sometimes riding with no hands or braking from 100km/h or so but wouldn't dare on my Fatboy as it starts wobbling. Tyres and pressures are fine. I am not starting to think that it is something to do with that off centre geometry that I have heard mentioned in relation to the front wheel a few times

You folks with the new 07 Customs (Standards too probably), do you noitice a bit of wobble or instability in the front end during crusing about 80+. I've noticed my bike seems to have a wobbly feeling at the high cruise speeds, especially in heavier traffic where the wind vorticies are produced from the big trucks.. I do have a windshield which could contribute to it I am sure, but it dont feel just right sometimes at high speed. Maybe it's that combo of the skinny 21" front tire and the big 200 on the rear? My last bike, a 1200C sporty had the skinny on the front and a 150 on the rear and it was smooth well up into the triple digits.

just curious...
