Windshield and side wind defelctors created wobble or ?
Hey all,
Was wondering if getting to 10,000 miles or having a taller windshield and adding some winde deflectors to my bat fairing have had the bigger impact on starting to feel a wobble at speeds around 70-75 mph in curves and even sometimes in a straighline. Seems to get worse if I stiffen the suspension pre-load. I went from 4" Streetglide WS then to a 6" HD WS which did not impact the bike.. next added the defelctors on the side of the bike and still no material change.. 1 month ago I got my 8 1/2 inch recurve from Clearview and now..feel a wobble at higher speeds and bike is not as stable? I'm also at 10,000 miles but I don't think that should be affecting much, right.. If it's the windscreen, will a brace from progressive suspension or other types help?
Neither windshield or deflectors should have any impact on creating a wobble. I'd say you probably need to check your neck bearings. Next check the alignment, and your motor mounts. And also have you changed tires, or rims lately. Or are they wearing abnormally or just getting wear. There might be some balancing issues there as well. Again, the windshield and deflectors are not the problem, I'm pretty sure it's got to be something else.
I've noticed something similar since I put a 16" Cee Bailey on my RG. It only happens when I'm caught in turbulent air behind a semi. It wasn't like that with the stock windshield. It's not violent or unpredictable, just different. It's sort of a side to side movement. I figure it's caused by the contour of the windshield. But overall, I'm okay with it since the flow of air is so much better with this shield vs. the stock one. I guess there just is no such thing as a perfect windshield. You can get rid of the annoying buffeting. But you might get some unexpected side effects.
i went from the stock streetglide 4" shield which looks killer on the showroom floor, but then immediately changed to the 9" electraglide windshield, and installed the adjustable wind deflectors. most likely tire pressure, or balance. the windshield and deflectors come stock on the ultra, , if you do your own service and didn't check your neck bearings, could be an issue there. hope you get it figured out, you're burning up some premium riding time.

First, thanks for the replies.. This response above describes best what i'm feeling.. I guess I just have to get used to it.. I will ask dealer to verify neck bearings at my upcoming maintenance to be sure.. I do have some tread left on the rear and check tire pressures frequently.
Thanks for all advice!
First ride of the spring my Electra Glide felt a bit unsteady at speeds and had some wobble. I had done everything to get the bike ready to ride but had forgotten tire pressures. Both tires were down to around 18 lbs. Put some air in the tires and everything is back to normal. A simple mistake on my part but one that could have caused a big problem. I have a full size windshield and the bike is steady without any wobble.
If you interested in eliminating the wobble that you are talking about, I would suggest contacting bitchinbaggers.com they make a bagger brace that you can put on your bike, takes about 45 min. just put one on my bike last week, what a difference it made. They also offer a money back garantee. Doesn't get much better than that.
