Default Windshield Installation/Handling

Recently I have had a windshield installed on my Sporty and afterwards I noticed a change in the handling of my bike. Is there anyone who also has experienced this after a windshield installation?

Of course its going to effect the handling. You've got this big piece of plastic attached to the forks that kind of gets hit by the wind. Its going to effect straight line handling by turbulence on the edges of the screen and by acting as a sail in crosswinds. Its also going to change the resistance to countersteer and cause the bars to jump a little in corners.

Yep, it's especially bad in cross winds. Most of the time my weenie shield is in the garage, but every time I put it on, I hafta get accustomed to the change in how the bike handles.

So is it better with one on long rides or without? Thanks

I don't put mine on unless it's fairly cold, I think it may be raining when I leave work, or I am planning on a long ride on the highway (rather let the wind hit the shield than my chest for several hours at highway speeds).

Thanks, guys your input was very informative. As a new rider I was not sure what was wrong after it was installed. I noticed the steering was different, especially when I got on the highway back from the dealership. As far as the aspect of crosswinds I will have to learn handling in those circumstances better for my shield is not a quick release model. My objective when buying it was for reducing the wind to my chest while riding.
Tiger-rider the details you gave was especially appreciated.

Most likely, nothing went wrong with the install. Pretty much anything you add or take off a bike will make some impact on handling - particularly something as large as a windscreen. It's all about aerodynamics. You just bolted a big barn door to the front of your machine... on the plus side, it'll make those long hard rides much easier.
