Default 2006 Softail Std - Fuel Injected - any known issues

Well, the deal for the Heritage fell thru, now I'm looking at a 2006 Softail Std. - < 1000 mi, fuel injected, black, and all stock.

Are there any known issues with this particular year and model? Is this a good choice? How much are these selling for?

Anyone have fuel injector problems with this model?

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2003 Fuel injected TC88 and I haven't had any problems. I'm pretty sure H-D has the bugs worked out on fuel injection.

Just in case your notaware, the 2007's have a 6 speed transmission, a 96" motor and an E-Z Clutch.

2006 & below have the 5 speed transmission, the 88 motor and a pretty rigid clutch.

You can compare the two bikes side by side on www.harley-davidson.com

No matter which year you go with, your gonna love it! [sm=smiley20.gif]

Thx for feedback.

I'm trying to work a 2006 Softail Std tradefor one of my 2005 Sporty 1200 XL Customs...

I won't trade the Sporty to a dealer so I am trying to work a private party trade...

That's why I'm not looking at a 2007 (unless someone wants to trade with me?)

Is this something to worry about?

Owner says: "The only marks on the bike that I noticed are some grease spots on the rear wheel from theaxle bearings and haven't gotten around to calling the dealer about cleaning the sandcast rear wheel without leaving any marks."

is this "normal"? or a bad sign telling me to walk away?

I'd wonder if the owner knows what he is taking about, as the rear wheel bearings are sealed units and in a 1000 miles there is no need to service the rear bearings. The spots should be easily cleaned with detergent and warm water. The only other two fluids associated with the rear wheel are brake fluid or shock oil, which are also unlikely for a bike with only 1000 miles.

He also said...

"I am pretty well aware of imperfections in vehicles. Inspected a couple cars last week end for a customer who ended up spending $155,000 for the pair. And yes this bike is 100% stock, as far as I am concerned, few aftermarket parts actually add value in regards to resale."
He is not the original owner... he took this on trade from someone else...

Yeah man I have an 06 Standard and love it. I would say it is a definite good trade. I would even say you are still getting the better half of the deal even.

The injector deal is nothing to really worry about. If it starts giving you issues just take it to a dealer and they will likely swap them out. Its about 50/50 for people saying they have had problems.

Go for it.

I had the 8* injectors swapped out on my '06, but I got no hassles from the dealer...25* injectors and the re-map for free. I bought my '06 FXSTI w/ 3 miles on it (new)...I now have3,000 trouble-free miles on my Standard and I'm looking forward to several thousand more. Great bike!

Well, he is asking for some cash - we haven't agreed on the amount just yet. How much do you think?
