Shotgun shock problems
Judging by the threads I've seen here, the SS system does indeed suffer some pretty persistent Gremlins. Of course, JD, the owner of SS, stands right up and bends over backwards to get you on the road again quickly.
I commend the OP for being honest about his experience. It helps people judge better if they want to buy one of these, because most threads are kinda rah rah when someone is still in the honeymoon phase of making this $1.7k purchase.
It's natural. Everyone does that when they've spent their hard earned cash on something cool and novel.
I'm not ruling out a SS on my Slim someday. So it's good to know what I'm getting into. Great customer service, but maybe some problems with the system here and there.

FYI, I am far past the "honeymoon phase" and have had my SS on 2 separate bikes. Still love it like the first day I installed it on my last bike.
Well, I bought mine used (was fortunate) but now that I have it, I would gladly pay $1200 - $1500 for one. Not sure where you got $1700 but that is for the bagger air ride. The softail shock, has always been between $1200-$1500 from what I've seen.
Ok. But 1.2k to 1.5k is still a lot of dough. Sorry. Just is.
Enjoy your SS. There's been plenty of threads here that tell me they have had some reliability issues. Though again, JD, steps and takes care of them very quickly.

If a few issues = plenty, then you are absolutely correct. Even though I would venture to guess the percentage of issues vs no issues is much lower than you would like to lead people to believe. We get it, you don't want to spend the cash for one so you are going to pop into these threads to justify that.

Still, the tendency on most forums is to hear mainly from those who have had problems.
In fact you often never hear a peep out of those who have had no issues.
So it's not easy to get a realistic bead on things when you're hearing mainly from those with complaints.
From all I've ever read online about the SS the "bias" is reversed, and in a big way.
That tells me a lot...
SS is a lot of money to some of us. It is also a very unique product that obviously warrants the price given the sells and customer satisfaction. All I can say is, it works as advertised and the warranty is solid. As others have said, keep your stock shocks as backup just in case. If the SS does need repair and you reinstall the stock shocks, when you get the SS back from repair and install it, you will be in love all over again. How bad can that be??
