Default Stage 1 conversion for the ’06 models?

OK all you softail owners out there, I have a question.

Stage 1 conversion for the ’06 models?

There is already a thread that touches on this subject in the general chat section. But no one has added to it who has actually had a conversion done on their bike.

Harley says that they are not producing a Stage 1 Kit. This does not mean of course that it’s not possible to do with third party parts eg V&H.

I was hoping to go with a set of the popular V&H pipes along with their Fuelpak. But am unsure about the new air filter.

So, have any of you done the conversion?
Any problems?
Any other thoughts or comments on this subject in general.

Any information on this subject may just help me sleep a little better at night. Or not!

Rob..

Hi Deluxe,
I had the same problem.
I bought a 2006 Heritage Classic 4 weeks ago Today. I immediatly went back to service and scheduled an appointment for a remap with the service manager.
He said nothing about not having a download for my setup (V&H Bigshot Stagereds with SE air cleaner).
I told them I would have the pipes on Tuesday and would install them that night, so they made an appointment that Thursday.
I called Wednesday morning to see if they could get me in early since I got everything installed. The Asst. Service manager proceeded to tell me that they did not have a download for an "06" and I would probabally have to go with the "Hd Race Tuner". The next problem was that he wouldn't have one until 3 weeks later. I was pissed. Not to the fact that they couldn't help me, but that the service manager should have known at the time of my scheduling the appointment. The next best thing "he said" (Other than putting the stock pipes back on) was a Power Commander and since they didn't have any maps available yet, it would cost me 2 hours dyno time to make a custom tuned map.
The only good thing is I got 78.8 HP and about a 10 ftlbs of torque increase. All for the measley price of 500.00.
So a 160.00 download cost me 500.00 in the end.
If you are in need of my map, let me know it cost alot of money so Id like to help out and at least know my money went for a good use. Its all the same 88B engine. As long as you have my same setup.

It sounds like you had to go through a pain in the **** to get it done, but from the output you quoted, it sounds like money well spent! Congrats on the new wheels.

I have recently ordered a 2006 model Fatboy and I made sure that a stage one tune including EFI remap was part of the deal.

My dealer in the UK says it will be no problem and will be done before I pick up the bike.

Deluxe,

I purchased an 06 Heritage and took delivery last Monday. I had the Stage I, race tuner, and V&H longs installed prior to delivery. As far as any problems I have not hand any. I brought the bike in today for the 1k service. Good luck sleeping. I didn't get any til my bike got here.

Hi RockyTopRider,
Good to hear.
They gave me the SERT option, but I had to wait a few weeks for it to come in.
My problem was I was going to our state rally the next week and couldn't ride the bike the way it was.
I think the main problem is just a remap being done. Although Guzzirider got it done in the UK.

Thanks to everyone,

It's good to hear that some of you are having success. Guzzirider, where is your dealer in the UK? I'm also stuck on this island and having now phoned around, getting different stories from different dealers.

Smittyjf, thank you very much for the kind offer of the map info. Still a little confused, but I will pin down a dealer/service manger that will give me a straight answer. Seems like Guzzirider and rockytoprider went about it the right way!

Thanks again for your help..

Hi Deluxe

I have ordered my bike from Eddys in Leeds. I asked Sam who sold me the bike for a stage one tune as part of the deal and she confirmed it would include an EFI remap.

It is written on the bill of sale too.

Can't wait to get the bike- one week gone- another 7 to go!

Hope you get it sorted.

My dealer (Bergdale Harley Davidson) in Albert Lea, MN sold me an 06 Nightrain and told me they could remap it when I bought the pipes 16gauge SE's and Stage 1 intake. So I called them 2 weeks ago and told them I was coming down to get the pipes & air cleaner so they could remap it the next day after I installed them they said sure thing. So I drove down there went to pay for the pipes and intake and the service guy said the down load wouldn't be available till the 1st to the middle of September. What a waisted trip.
