I know several people have Carlini apes and love them but does anyone have any other Carlini handlebars besides apes on their breakout? Particularly bag drags or something similar in style? Saw a set on a cvo but would like to see some on a non cvo breakout.
Hello all.
My accounting dept. (she's not into the whole 'old-lady' bit) has approved the budget so I will be acquiring a '15 BO, but I have a question for all you seasoned (forum) vets.
I am a 'casual enthusiast'. Im not gonna race, don't need to be the fastest, and don't want to study maps or dyno graphs. No offense to all you nerds...but I do not wish to be one. I am a total nerd when it comes to other things though, like exploring the grain weight window for two-handed spey fly fishing rods, therefore I have total respect.....but I digress...
I have read (here) that "if all you are going to do is change the AC and exhaust you should get an FP3", which is my intention. Im gonna go with the V&H 2-2 with the black shields and use the stock AC cover because I like the way it looks. HEY!! You like what you like, they like what they like and I like what I like...BUT.. I want to put a K+N air filter kit (STREET SLEEPER™ II) underneath the AC cover just so I feel like I got a little better system goin' on. So I guess my question is on the FP3...do I select the stock AC or is there a specific selection for this type of aftermarket application.
I wanna look good, sound good and equally important, run well. Thanks to all replies. I will accept a range of replies from "plugitinandshutup-you'll be happy" to "it will never work because...."
I am enjoying the forum very much....Thanks again!
Dan
I consider the FP3 more of a preference based on what you feel suits your needs among the different tuners and software available...provided that someone did thier research and homework to explore all options.
As for the FP3 itself, I run it and am very happy with it. It is designed for a high flow air filter. The downloadable maps don't have an option for the stock air cleaner. It's very user friendly and easy to flash your bike. From unboxing to downloading the app on my phone, my bike was flashed in about 15 minutes and away I went.
I just installed my second FP3 on a Breakout this past Saturday. As Jimstang said, 15 minutes and you're riding. Also, I pulled the VH BR2-2 off my'13 BO and put the bike completely back to stock and then re-flashed back to the stock map, which took about 2 minutes. It's that easy to use. For us keep-it-simple-guys, the $300 FP3 is a great option.

Indeed. I don't think it gets much easier than the FP3 for those of us who don't want to mess with maps and fine tuning.
I'll also mention that my bike ran great from the base map. There were only two exhaust options for mine so I emailed V&H. They told me to go with the 2 into 2 Big Radius. Since I am running the Freedom Performance Amendment which is closer to the V&H Short Shots, I was a little confused. Apparently they know their stuff because my bike ran awesome from the get go. All the decel pop stopped and the bike absolutely rips compared to how it ran before the tune. I did run the auto-tune but it didn't change from what I can tell...it simply fine tuned what was already near perfect.
When I left it was there and when I returned it was gone lol! Guess I'm gonna have to go to the dealer to see what the fix is.
When you get the new ignition cover/switch, AND the required set screw to mount it, you need to:
- Mount the new switch (without the screw yet)
- Turn TWO clicks to "on" position (this is so you can get at the screw hole properly)
- Apply BLUE Loctite to the set screw
- Thread the set screw into the mounting hole, being careful to not over-torque it (it is tiny and you sure don't want to strip the ignition switch threads)
- Turn switch to off position (do it now before you forget )
- Let the blue Loctite SET before you try going anywhere
I fortunately caught mine getting loose before it fell off, and did the above. No problem since.
