Bar change is not required to do a tank lift, just riser spacers.
My bar change had already been done before I did my lift so I didn't know this would work with stock bars for sure, horizontal on the apes being narrower of course. That said, I'm not surprised. The riser bushings are about 85 bux as I recall and are a very easy install. Obviously though, if you keep stock risers and bars, the bushings will increase your reach by as much as a couple of inches I would think.
It might be an interesting experiment to reverse the stock risers and use the 10 degree bushings to slant em back toward the rider. I have no Idea how well, or if this would work but maybe the combination would give tank clearance without extending the reach or screwing up the presentation angle of the gauge. Someone's gotta try it so we know .

I think the reason it works is because he rotated the bars upward. If you look at the pics the handle grips are pointing towards the sky vice horizontal.
Hence why I said good Idea with the spacers. And then I said it can not be done with the stock set up. Then you said "except it will". But, it can not.
