My first impression is positive, except for the instrument shape. I love:
- The bigger engines, especially the 114
- The lighter weight (about 30 lb which = 4.3% of the bike's former weight!!)
- The easily adjustable under-seat single shock
- Even the smaller fuel tank (makes the engine look larger)
- Wet sump oil - no external tank - eliminates sumping and potential for leaks - The kept the "kicked out" front fork on the Breakout! THAT is one its special features

They did "kick it in" a touch so they haven't exactly "kept" that special feature. More like they kept the compromise to a, ("hoped you wouldn't notice"), minimum IMHO. It reminds me of that "small wheel" they put on the 16 CVO, I think it was. It seems as though, as an afterthought, HD has decided they made the BO too long !?! I made mine longer, with a 2" fork extension. Thats what HD should have done IMHO.
What do you boys think of the new Breakouts. Info now available on HD website. Not so sure about digital instruments, but otherwise interesting. Massive overhaul of entire softail range. 107 and 114 engines. Dyna range is no more.
I don't like it. Had the Breakout looked like this in 2015; I would not have bought it.
I do not like:
Smaller fuel tank
Less rake
Shorter wheel base
Oil cooler in the frame
head light
Heck, I just don't like it......
I'll know more when I see it in person. But that smaller tank is the number one reason I never bothered getting a nicer looking stretched tank from thunderbike. Not worth the loss.
huge improvement, no need for heartland or thuinderbike, glad I waited, it was the mess of the coo that did it, everything happens for a reason, and I'm building a 107 as we speak rocker c/breakout....GLADLY buy that Year 2 naturally...lol
They ruined not only the Breakout, but the whole Softail line. That swing arm, no more oil bag and lines just plastic covers and that adjust ****. WTF. As for the Breakout, reduced the rake, Sportster tank with no more dash, no more gauge, just that digital riser clamp and that headlight. I hope it works out for the MOCO, but as for me, thank God I bought my 2017. The Softail is and has always been the form over function option, otherwise you buy a Dyna. Well not anymore.

Agree glad to have my Old School HD Softail. Fake oil tanks...OMG what has happened.

Sad day for us old school guys, but who knows, maybe it will work out for the MOCO. Was thinking about adding a Road Glide S to the stable in a few years, but if they don't put some chrome back on it that's not happening either.
