My 03 Duece has all three attachment points rubber mounted inside the light housing. I never noticed any shaking until I installed an extended ring. Now the thing bounces like a yo-yo. When I tried to remove the rubber mounted bolts, they all just twist the rubber. I could not get the nuts loose on either side. It was like they has super loc-tite on them. Any suggestions on how to remove these?
Man what a difference! I struggled and struggled trying to remove the nuts. Finally I said "f-it" and squeezed on them like no tomorrow with the vise grips and finally got them to pop loose. They were all completely coated with lock-tite. Now with the new nylon standoffs and neoprene washers,it has a little give to cushion jolts to the bulb but not enough to constantly shake the light. Thanks again for a great suggestion on the upgrade!
My Springer Classic light bounced pretty good. Then a dealer did a 10k service & the whole bike bounces now....anyhow.
Night rode a couple hundred miles last week. That dancing light drove me (traffic) crazy. I threaded a small ziptie around the little screw that holds the bezzal & the top of the little shock. Works great!! It's been on a poker run & at 2 other gatherings since & nobody's noticed it.....
never underestimate a flashing redneck with a ziptie.....
How tall are the nylon spacers that you used? I got some last night and the rubber washers but the spacers look too tall. Maybe it is just one of thoseexperiment withthe fit till it is right.
Just an observation from a safety standpoint.... That shaking light does get the attention of the oncoming cages...
After I had just gotten my Softail Custom, I followed my wife somewhere. She said that the light drove her crazy, in the rear view. The vibration doesn't bother me that much, if the trade off is that I will be seen better. Had some punk kid in his mommy's expensive car tell me that my light was loose, that it was shaking. I told him that it wasn't loose, that it was supposed to be that way. That way dumb a$$ kids, that are to busy being cool would see me. He just looked me. Unless the vibration gets worse, I'm leaving mine alone.
