Default Fork length

Help me out guys.. I took this photo the other nite of my 2008 fatboy (right) next to a 2013 heritage.. Why is there such a huge difference in fork height? Specifically headlight height.. I want to do the same thing he did, add a fron fairing... but mine is gonna look horrible so high..

I didnt ask the guy if he lowered his suspension.. mine is 1" dropped in the rear but should have no effect on the front..

Whats going on here?

thanks

..although it's barely discernible from that fuzzy photo, if you look at the distance between the bottom of the beer cans and the start of the taper in the lowers, the Heritage does look to be a little lower - maybe less than an inch.

I'd say that small amount could be just from the added weight of the fairing and nothing else...

Well the photo is quite distorted your bike is closer and will look larger naturally and the other bike does have heavy fairing on it. If they were side by side and up right not sitting on the stand it would be easier to tell. But it does appear the forks are about 1-1.5" lower on the Heritage.

You are right, IMHO, I think that nice bike would look horrible with a fairing.

Don't overthink it.

Oh it will get a fairing.. I just want it to look right.. which if it means I need to lower it fine but then Iof course wont want to bottom out.. which is happening in the rear.. so Im gonna put it back to stock in the rear or go with a air suspension $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Im gonna run into this guy again Im sure.. and when I do I'l investigate further. I guess what I was wondering was if the 2013 models had a lower headlight.. it looks a TON lower than my 2006 (I said 2008 above)...

its a work in progress.. but let me assure you, that heritage looks VERY VERY nice.. by the way that is a reckless fairing with a stereo.. the bike looked proportional.. I gotta track him down.. its exactly what I want.. but in looking at my bike, I can visually see the headlight is too damn high.. so I maybe am screwed.

Don't take my suggestion as any deviation of my love of softails, but with a fairing & air suspension in your future, why not just trade her in on a Street Glide?

Because.. A) trade in at a dealer is like bending over B) the softail market in my opinion is less than soft. So selling it Id take it the same way..

Maybe Im wrong.. I may list it in April-may and see what happens.. I couldnt give it away now.

Am I wrong about dealer trades? Just seems like anything dealer you PAY and pay big.. I dont buy cars or bikes at dealers..

You are right though, Id end up sticking $2500 into a softail that is worth maybe $9k.. maybe stupid.

BUT.. I wont be sitting IN a tourer.. I'll be sitting on it.

Agreed. There is a touring bike in my far future, because right now I prefer the look over the comfort. And, everyone has a streetglide, like belly buttons. I like to be different.

I wouldn't be different if I had a fairing and hard bags on my softail, now would I?
