Great Find At Swap Meet
Browsing the swap meet in Berea Oh. yesterday I stumbled across this 2000 Fatboy for a hair under 5 g's with 13 thousand miles. I'm probably going to sell the bagger to break even and try to not have a bike payment for the first time in ten years. This is my first foray in the Softail world, as I have had Sportys, dynas, and baggers. The only downside is I finally bulletproofed the lower on my bagger with gear cams, etc. and I now I have to start over. My question is if I were to build up the engine over the next couple of years, what size gear drive cam to go to? Limited funds for now after pulling money out of your you know what for the bike. I plan on upgrading to 96" over the winter, but the only mods I can budget time or money for this summer are cams and a new S&S carb. Previous owner did the stage 1 with High intake air and V&H pipes. I want to get max performance from the cams going in the 88 this year, but also to work well with the 96 I am building up to over next winter. Is there a cam size that kind of overlaps both displacements until I can afford new jugs, pistons and heads? I know this is kind of lengthy, thanks for bearing with me.

It looks like the prior owner found that fender an put it on. The badge is coming off and a d.a. sander with some primer and paint are in its future later this week when we get some relief from our arctic spring.
It was at the Berea Fairgrounds in Cuyahoga County OH. I was pretty stoked about going, as it seems Ebay has killed the swap meet scene, but it was kind of a disappointment. There was a very few cool things there (The bike I bought that a thousand people walked by) like some old 45 cases, some maybe hard to find fenders, there was a box of rusted carbs, but the rest of it was typical rally b.s. Cheap gloves, SAMCRO had their support gear there (sarcasm font) some outdated rally shirts from various venues, and a lot of already assembled hardcore biker Pleather vests with all the cool RTLLTR and dilligaf patches already sewn on with your choice of rebel or American flag, but you had to watch if you were walking around wearing them the HOG guys were giving you the beat-down stare. I don't think I will go back. I thought it would be better than the IX center in Cleveland, but it was still kind of disappointing. I think the cold weather kind of brought everyone's mood down a little too.

Sorry, I kind of figured the Softail crowd would be pretty savvy about getting one up to snuff as these are the closest to the old school rides HD makes. I apologize I will either ask here about where to put my cup holder or such and then maybe head over to the Rushmore section to discuss what kind of animal shapes the coolant puddles under the bike make.
