Heritage Question.
Well got the bike back from the dealership. Rode it home, today it was about 34 outside. Bike seemed like it took forever to warm up but I can deal with that. Got it home and at slow speeds second gear bike would pop. Got in the garage and noticed again that I had oil all around my oil tank and on my pipes. The dipstick did not pop out so I am guessing the oil again came out of the air filter. Called the dealership and their excuse was the fact that it was cold outside and the oil need to expand. I took off the air cleaner and to me it did not look like there was alot of oil around it, there was some but not alot. What the heck could be the problem. The dealership said that they checked it out and they could not find anything wrong with it. I have an owners manual coming but am I doing something wrong? Am I not letting the bike warm up enough? Am I not running the enricher correctly? I don't know what I can be doing wrong but I do know I am not going to like this bike if I can't ride it until it is 65 - 70 degrees outside. Anybody have any ideas let me know.
Thanks
Jason

If you've got high viscosity petroleum based oil in the thing, it could beoverpressurizing and flooding the cam gear compartment where the oil/air mix from the crankcase is separated. The liquids fall out of the mix,are picked up by the scavange gears and sent to the filter and tank. The air pressure is relieved through the pushrod tubes to the rocker boxes.
As jeffflsti mentioned in the previous post, a bad oil pump would give the same sorts of results if the scavange gears couldn't pick up the separated oil. There are also some regulating and check valves in the oil system that could be causing trouble.
The book recommends 10W40 Petroleum Based oil for ambient temperatures below 40 Degrees F. If they have you stuffed full of 50W or 60W straight viscosity, that's probably what's the matter.
Good luck
