My neighbors brother passed away and left him a 1991 Fatboy w/22k miles on it. It looks showroom new and seems to run like a top. Cosmetic only mods nothing performance wise and in fact it has the stock exhaust. Almost all the miles were highway, the guy took the bike to Sturgis, Daytona and did a cross country trip on it.
Anyway he;'d really like to get 6k for it. I'd love to have it but don't know how the pricing is on these older bikes.
Any thoughts? It has new tires and brakes, due for an oil change which ain't no biggie.
Evo is a solid motor and easy to wrench on. Watch for the gaskets seeping at the base of the jugs. Around here I'm seeing Shovels bring a little more than Evos depending on condition, and some of the Evo bikes are selling in the 4500-7000 range depending on the model. For me, if I wanted an older Fatboy and it was in good condition I would consider it a fair deal somewhere between 5-6k.
I missed out an a completely redone shovel in my area. Good ones are going for quite bit more than similar Evos in my area.
While I love shovel, the Evo is a bike that I can even wrench on with my dated skills. Good call on the gaskets, they were just redone over this winter. It seems really dry right now.
Change the inner cam bearing, don't worry about the base gaskets they will weep. At that age, I would put in new lifters and fluids and ride the crap out of it.
