Does the analogue gauge also show low all the time. If so it's the float on the sender unit getting stuck. I had a similar issue on an 07 RK. Except mine showed full all the time. It was still under dealer warren try so I let them sort it out. The mech said it wasn't uncommon as when filled sometimes the float gets wedged on the inside of the tank. He just bent the lever slightly and I never had another problem.
If you let it get real low, the same kind of thing may have happened.
If not it could be the variable resistor on the sender unit, but I couldn't say for sure only thinking out loud.
It may be a mechanical issue, but before I went further I would disconnect the positive battery cable, clean and reconnect, then cycle ignition twice slowly. Also clean and tighten the negative cable. This may reset the system.
As above, what does the gauge say. Mine is intermittant. Replacing the sender fixed it but it crapped out again. If the gauge says lays low the light comes on, issespective of the actual fuel level.
