It's not how fast you get there, it's how your get there. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm the last to show up. On the other hand, my other bike is a Ducati. So when I want to go fast (and stop fast), I ride it. But mostly, I'm on my Softail. In my old age, it feels fast enough for me.

Do miss my race bike sometimes, but no matter how young I look and feel, at 47 I know race bikes are a young sport. Not being as fast as I was would really annoy me at the track.

The best way to make your bike go faster is to become a better rider. A good number of people looking for speed can't handle the turns anyway.

In all seriousness, on mine about the only thing exhaust and air cleaner did was make it louder. I did some tuning and got it running better but it didn't wake up until I swapped out the cams and had it dyno tuned. Didn't take long to get bored with that though, don't get me wrong it runs good, but the price to go the next step is high.

If it's too slow, then you're not grown up enough yet....

Softail and a Duc here as well. Depends on my mood.

Mikula, I got much better results with a Terminal Velocity TV3 than the FuelPak. And Thunderheader rather than Vance and Hines. But why not get the head work done if you've got the cash? Those pipes look like they need a major cam and porting to work.

A friend was telling me how much faster his Ninja 1000 was than my Dyna. I told him:

"Not with you riding it."

as low as my bike is, i avoid turns when i don't have my training wheels on. you're right about the cost though. after a stage 1, head work gets pricey, and from what i've read, isn't worth the price/reward. touring bikes are a different story, because they usually have an actual 'reason' for putting down great torque numbers
