Front turn signal removal without goofing with electrical system
Either gonna relocate to the forks or get rid of my front turn signals entirely on my 05 FXST. I've checked all the threads here that I can find on it and I've seen where some people have had issues and some haven't. So supposing I end up being one of the ones where removal raises hell with my electrical system, what kinda load limiter or whatever would I need? I have rear LEDs already and a security system...I can deal with imperfections, but I might be a little too OCD to stare at a lit up red key light all the time
I removed my front turn signals from my 08 rocker all together. They plug into a socket connector under the tank. All you have to do is unplug them I would assume and take them off the bike.
My rocker also has led rear lights and I had no problems at all.
yeah my rear LEDs already have a load limiter....maybe that will suffice for the whole system? I'm gonna swap out the bars this weekend and just wanted to do it all at one time, but in the meantime I have no way to relocate them. The dealer has a couple of fork brackets for about 20 bucks, and that's only a few miles away, but just wanna know what I'm getting into
I used 5/16 24 pitch threaded rod to relocate signals to forks on my Slim when I did the bar change. Screws into signals and forks...just cut to length and run the wires.
I removed the front turn signals on my 2008 Crossbones almost three years ago and I have never had a single electrical issue on account of it. I'm still currently running without them and without load limiters or whatever, my turn signals for the rear work just fine and blink at the normal rate that they did when I had both front and back signals. As stated above, its just a plug under the tank. Unplug it. Remove signals from bike.
Done. I run stock, non LED signals on the back.
My brother has an 08 Rocker C with LED rear signals that function as run/stop/turn signals. We installed apes on his bike about two months ago and at the time he could not make up his mind what he wanted to do about the front turn signals so we left them off for the time being. He has been running the bike without his front sigs ever since and like me, he's had no issues to speak of.
If your rears are LED's and you are running a load balancer, then there should be no issues removing the fronts. Went from stocks, to front and rear LED's with a balancer from Custom Dynamics, then removed the fronts about 3 years ago. The load balancer should compensate just fine. Haven't had any issues since, just that you need to remember that oncoming traffic doesn't know you're turning so a little extra "heads up" is required. Other than that, should be good!
As said above, the easy way is to just unplug them. The plugs are located just behind the neck, under the front of the tank. I moved mine down on the forks with Kuryakyn brackets that are pretty low profile.
As everyone said it's just a plug under the tank. I just cut the wires at the controls and where they ran into the forks leaving dead wires inside the handlebars. Got some 18 gauge and shrink tube from autozone and about 30 minutes of soldering later I had them down on the forks of my '07 Fatboy.
I used a springer swivel kit to mount them which pushed them up and forward a little, giving them a fairly aggressive look that I really like. Also... I upgraded to Custom Dynamics LEDs all around with their Ringz white and amber lights on the front so now I have aux lights without all the bulk of the 5" light bar.
Lastly, threw in their Triple Play mod so the bike looks like a UFO when I stop at night. I did need CDs load stabilizer but everything works great. Total project time was about an hour and couldn't be happier with the results!

yup...found the plug under the tank with no problems (well that is except for what a pain in the *** it was to reach the disconnect clips on everything without actually removing the tank - just sliding it back)
took it all apart for a bar swap the night before a 400 mile ride and the risers I bought didn't work so I put it all back together for the time being, but left the turn signals off. Blinkers in the back blink really fast so I reckon it's an issue technically. I think I'm gonna end up keeping them anyway. I'll just put them back on when I get this riser issue sorted out
