I haven't personally spoken to the guy except once to ask him about that bike but if my info is correct the guysin his 60's, retired, lives fairly close by,and has been collecting old bikes and bike parts for most of hislife.
Many of the bikeshe has (between15 and 20 if the rumors are true) were actually aquired by his father. Probably before many of us, including him were born.
I can't swear how many he has, but I can say that I haven't seen him ride in on the same one twicethis year, and he's there every week. He always gets there between 6 and6:30 and leaves before it gets too dark. No surprise there, most of the bikes have at best very poor lighting.
If you look close you can see that theIndian does have aheadlight, but its one of the oldcalcium carbide actylene lamps and from the rust inside the housing I don't think its been used in one hell of a long time. Probably be better off duct taping adouble D cell Mag-Lite to the handlebars anyway.
Posted this on the general Softail forum but no response so far...here goes:
Anyone who's mounted Heritage Springer bags on a Springer Classic...
What is involved in mounting FLSTS saddlebags on an FLSTSC (I know the strut bolts line up, but what changes if any need to be made where the lower bracket attaches to the passenger footpeg mount?) Also, what docking kit would be needed to mount the bags and use the old-style handrail/passenger backrest (again, the bolts on the strut line up with the mount locations on the handrail, but HD has about 20 different detachable hardware kits for these things!)
If you do search for heritage springer bags you should get a lot of info, Tons of people wnt to put those bags on springers, I think the ones made for th FLSTSC are better looking, but i really hate fringe.
Thanks, bgismo. I agree that the FLSTSC bags look good, but I'm looking for a "taller" bag to drop a lttle closer to the pipes. I was going to go with the post-'00 non-fringe version.
Hey Olrocker, the lower bracket on the bag doesn't make it to the footpeg, there is a bracket in-between, see the picture. Kit 79304-06 has what you need for hard mounting the bags. https://www.hdforums.com/upfiles/759...DC7AB53C09.jpg
The Bubba's quick release kit that I mentioned previously includes the lower brackets for the earlier FLSTS bags. I installed them on my Springer Classic.
ORIGINAL: Olrocker
Are the brackets in the 79304-06 kit the same as the stock ones on the FLSTS?
i'm not sure, Ihave an 05 springer classic with the heritage springer bags though, and that kit worked fine, plus the kit is cheaper than buying those brackets seperately
