Default Blue Ridge Parkway

Hi
I understand there can be rain at any time in the BRP area but looking for opinions as to best time to travel to this area. We are planning to go this year coming from New England. Thank you

.

Middle of the week, May to October.

Rain in the afternoon in the NC mountains is a regular occurrence. Kinda unpredictable in summer.

Ridden the BRP from Cherokee to Ashville twice when riding the smokies. My favorite road. Weather in that area is like most others. Went down near Gatlinburg and Robbinsville for a week each time to ride at the end of july/ end if august and got rain for a day or so each trip. Pack a decent jacket, and some gear if you get cold easy. The temp drops quick up there.

IMO it's always a good time to enjoy the BRP.... but I tend to avoid it during peak leaf season....
See above for a free traveler's guide (in print form, or app)
bookmark it, as well as https://www.nps.gov/blri/index.htm
This is the official site, and will have up to the minute closure information.

Things to remember:
) it's a SLOW speed limit
2) it's a FEDERAL speed limit
3) the overlooks show same valley, so once you stop for one, you can go a while .... but you'll figure it out
4) Gas is NOT sold on the BRP.... use google maps, to figure your fuel stops, several stations are just off the parkway
5) stop at the various "attractions" on the BRP...ya never know what will strike you.
6) IF you can swing it.... Visit the D-Day Memorial off the BRP in Bedford VA, 20 miles +/- south of Peaks of Otter

It's a great ares to ride ... You can add the Skyline to the ride depending on which direction you're coming from ... Th Skyline speed limit is strictly enforced ( 35 mph ) ... There is no "bad way" to enjoy the BRP
