Default Good battery tender

Hi guys, so I'm preparing for the cold weather here in the North East and need a battery tender for my Sporty (this is my first riding season). I came across this deal on Amazon Gold Box today:

Amazon.com: Schumacher SC-1200A/CA SpeedCharge 3/6/12 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Tester: Automotive Amazon.com: Schumacher SC-1200A/CA SpeedCharge 3/6/12 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Tester: Automotive

Is it a proper one to use? I noticed most of the battery tenders people use have 1.5 Amp. This one has a lowest output is 3. Is it going to be a problem?

I'm a noob so any advice is appreciated.

Thx.

I personally wouldn't use that one. Not because it has higher amps. That won't hurt anything. Just means it will charge faster. As long as it is for 12Volts you are fine. For me it is because of these two reasons. First it looks like it only comes with the clips. That would not be a good idea. That means you would have to pull the battery in order to charge it. Unless you already have some kind of harness installed to where you can clip on. Plus it doesn't look very weather friendly. Looks like if it got wet you wouldn't be happy. I have no experience with it so I am just going by what I see.

I would search for a battery tender specifically. One that includes the quick connect cable is ideal. I went with this HD one just because I got a great deal on one, was around $30, http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ry-tender---us. But anything similar would be fine.

Deltran Battery Tender Jr. (same company that makes HD tenders, so whichever is a better deal).

I was planning on spending the $$$ on the HD tender myself but decided to get this one
Amazon.com: Battery Tender Power Tender Plus Charger 022-0186G-DL-WH: Automotive Amazon.com: Battery Tender Power Tender Plus Charger 022-0186G-DL-WH: Automotive

and I’m also buying the small voltage reader and USB port adapters for the same price as the HD. Just my thoughts.

I have used the Deltran battery tenders for many years and have never had a problem with them. I have 4 in use right now and have had these for many years now.

I got a Stanley battery tender at Lowes. It was $15, came with interchangeable battery clips and with the standard plug cables, plus the battery connection side cables. Was also small and magnetic so it sticks to the side of my tool box next to my bike. It has worked great, and the price was unbeatable. I liked it so much I went back and bought three more.

I use the battery tender plus. I'm sure it's overkill but it works great and I use it for my race car as well so it's justified.

Another vote for Detran Battery Tenders. I've been using the Jr. for years.

I have been using two of Deltran's Battery Tenders here in New Jersey for over 10 years and they have never failed to keep my batteries at peak charge. I have always been able to walk out to my shed and start whichever bike I'd like to ride (including in the dead of winter) even though it may be 15 degrees and the bike hasn't been started in over two months. IMHO, Deltran makes THE best battery tender, and I'll never be without them.
