Hi guys, I got my Iron 883 a week back and I intend to change the exhaust mufflers.
I have the "Vance & Hines Twin Slash Slip-On Exhaust" in mind but I dunno what else to do with it.. Do I have to change the air filter and/or do the fuel mapping?!?
I don't have any information regarding these things and the dealership guys told me to get the "Screaming Eagle" and also that I'd have to get the air filter changed even though I intend to change only the mufflers.. But I don't like it much and it's very expensive here; I don't wanna go with whatever they say without checking.
P.S - I would lose my engine warranty by installing V&H Exhaust but I know these bikes are bulletproof so I don't need to worry much about it, what's ur take on that?!?
As far as, bullet proof, I wouldn't say that. You don't have to change the A/C when you install slip-ons. But the A/C & re-map would improve performance. If A/C is expensive, I also get that. Dealerships want to sell you their SE exhaust. If there is another HD dealership, give them a call & see what they tell you. Good Luck.
The only thing I have done to my iron performance wise is the twin slash slip ons. They will give you a ton of decel popping if you dont do a stage 1 download or use different baffles. The air filter is unnecessary regardless, but I used some thunder torque inserts to get rid of the popping. I love the sound now.
There is already a lot of info out there about the warranty. Legally it seems they can't void your warranty without evidence you caused the problem. Chances are your engine won't give you problems until the warranty is over anyway.

A girl here at work put on the V&H 3" slash slip-on mufflers on her stock 2014 Custom. I was in the parking lot the day she rode in with these installed. I thought it was a big twin pulling in. I was surprised at the tone (deepness) and loudness of them (not real loud, but louder than I like). Very, very nice mufflers! I almost got them for my 2014 Forty Eight in fact but went with Khrome Werks HP Plus slip ons (3") for the performance gain. These like the V&H are too loud for me too. I put in the Noise Reduction Kit (kind of like baffles) and improved the performance more. She put in quiet baffles and got a good bump in performance on the V&H.
Both of ours have the decal pop. Less after the baffles/noise reduction kit. The only way I know to get rid of it is then to add a tuner/fuel enrichner of some type. Also, no guarantee that these would completely get rid of the decel pop. Some people have maps that work well in this regards on their tuners.
Get the slip ons (can't go wrong). Ride the bike and then if it bothers you, add baffles. See how that goes. If still bothering you go for a tuner of some type. No need to change the AC to free flowing to run a tuner. Heck, a tuner (with correct map) can improve stock performance.
I have the V&H twin slash and they sound good but are loud. Guys at work say they sound better then a Sportster should, and better then their big bikes. I did add the SmartPartz baffles to tone them down some, and now the decibel level is just right.
Added a Screaming Eagle AC and the Fuel Moto Micro EFI and it now runs like a raped ape.
So it's "Vance & Hines Twin Slash Slip-On Exhaust" and "Vance & Hines Black Exhaust Header Wrap" for me without doing the ECU Mapping or Air Cleaner upgrade.
But if these exhausts are SOO LOUD that u have to put in quiet baffles shouldn't I look for another exhaust?
you can put on any slip ons & improve sound & performance over stock mufflers. If they've got baffles inside they shouldn't be too loud or need a re-map or air cleaner change. if no baffles get DK Customs TTI's. If you want better performance then also change air cleaner ( DK Customs or similar ) & do re-map or get a fuel Mgt system ie Vieds or Xieds ( good & cheaper ) or Cobra FI 2000 R ( expensive & better ) or similar fuel Mgt. system. Better & cheaper than HD SE stuff IMHO & the mechanic at my HD dealership who used V&H short shots, big sucker air cleaner & V&H fuel pack on his Sportster. I've got SE slip ons with baffles removed & TTI's installed a home made air cleaner with parts from DK Customs & Auto Zone & Cobra FI 2000 R on my 72
I removed my stock mufflers and knocked out the baffles with a piece of rebar. Ran and sounded great. I've since done an air filter slipons and x14ieds. But I ran stock mufflers without baffles for about 6 months. Don't worry just do it.
