Bike grew wngs
Trimmed braided hoses (first go round). taped the area to cut and used the dremel tool with diamond cutting disks. could have been done a number of ways but, i need a dremel tool anyway for my jeep (rust abatement), purchase justified.
moved cables to find a good place to mount the clamps
tested a few positions, opted to place the cooler as high as possible make adding the hoses easier later on since they don't have the flexibility of naked rubber.
got nosy and found a rust issue
i'll replace it later... clutch cable F***ery is not on the critical path.
test fitted the xl1200/883 cooler to better judge the length need for cables and the adapter
pulled the oil filter (to get commitment from myself to the job)
began fitting the adapter. it must be disassembled to mount it on the bike.
all apart (only 5 little bolts)
mounted and adjusted. that bolt is a 1".
added top portion and anti-rotation device (aka cheap piece of scrap metal that stops the thing from spinning when you are removing oil filters)
retrimmed hoses, finished them with pretty worm clamps. added oil to the insides and mounted them.

added pointless cable coupler just to make myself feel better about wasting money on the entire kit when i really just needed braided hose and pretty worm clamps.
There's no way i could have know that though.... but you now know.
test fitted the cover.
for the cover adhesive, the directions called for Harley-DavidsonŽ High-Performance Sealant - Gray - (read: RTV) - 99650-02. i subbed permatex Ultimate gasket maker because..... it was in my chemical stash, and even though the HD RTV is rated to 482 degrees and the permatex is on rated to 400.... if 400 ever happened on the cooler, i'd have other exploding engine issues that would take precedence over a loose oil cooler cover.
rtv'd cover attached
added a fresh filter. i will change all the oil after i test ride and check for leaks. all done.
clean looking. i could have trimmed the hoses a little more for a cleaner look.. but it's a PITA to trim them. life goes on.
damn mess
