I know this is a bit late, and you've already done it, but I put forwards on an 883r (pretty close to your bike), and it was great! Very comfortable, no more cramped legs. I hope you like it!

Thanks, I get them put on next Wednesday. I was really just curious how much more comfortable it made the ride. I was concerned it would detract from the handling and it would be difficult to get used to, but the dealer insisted I had this done, so much he threw it in for free. He said it will really make a better ride for me at 6'0" tall.
I'm quite tall myself, and it is WAY more comfortable (totally comfortable, you will love it!). Itmight take a day or two to get used to when you're stopping and starting(if you've been riding with the mids for a while, your feet might naturally go to that spot, and there won't be anything there!). But, after the quick break-in period, you will be very comfortable, especially on longer rides, but in general, too. And the controlsare notso far forward that your legs are stretched all the way out, or anything. You'll be in a more normal sitting position, so it shouldn't affect your control at all (and you won't have to deal with your legs all bent up and stiff, which can be detracting in itself). Enjoy the ride, dude!
Just got my bike back from the dealer. They installed the Forward controls, replaced the tire, air kit and new seat. I really like the forward controls, much more confortable. Only thing now it put me further from the handle bars, so I'm in need of a pull back riser.
I see the pattern starting to happen. You change one thing and then you will have to change something else. Or add a item and then you say if I did that I might as well add this. Thats how it starts..LOL
Not sure if this is the best way to address the bars being farther way, but I loosened the bolts and rotated the bars back. It made a huge difference in my reach and relieved some back pain. I still think some small pull-back risers would be perfect, but not sure what's involved cable replacement etc.
I sat on some bikes at the dealership the other day with forward controls and my right leg had to bend around the stock air cleaner. Is that typical for the sportster ? Also can you get them out further from the bike or would it be easier to change the air cleaner to get it out of the way ?
