Default Vance and Hines Heat Shields Clamps

The clamp on my V&H heat shields has broken off. Thy are just a couple of big hose clamps spot welded to the shields. I know this not uncommon, but what have you done to fix this? My welding skills....suck. I do not want a screw sticking out of the heat Shields. I was thinking some JB weld (High Temp)-has anyone tried this?

They are 4 years out of warranty, so can't go that route. No I do not have the $$ for a new one.

I started to remove my heat shields as V&H asked me to get a number off the inside of the shield to see if I have the Straightshots Original. There is one "built in" clamp on the shield that is self with a larger nut bolt and nut. Not sure if I should be spreading that large clamp to removed the shield as it could break or compromise the shield. Any ideas?

****, might as well try the JB Weld, it can't really hurt it. Or, maybe paint the shields black and you can have the clamp tack welded back on? I ditched my chrome shields and painted my headpipes black, leaving just the chrome mufflers when I did my 1250 upgrade last year. Looks good after a year, not perfect, but I kind of like the faded "hotrod" look to it now. The lower parts of the headpipes still look like fresh painted, but the areas near the exhaust ports obviously take the brunt of things. But, it looks much better to me now IMO, and that's what really matters.

Here's right after I put on the 1250 kit, with fresh painted headpipes and no shields. I guess I could have painted the shields, but I like the bare pipe look.

Good luck!]

On the HD heat shields there is "H" shaped pieces welded to them. The top and bottom of the uprights are welded to the heatshield such that the cross part of the "H" forms a slot that the strap clamp / Jubilee clip rides in.

In your case you could fashion the top and bottom pieces of the "H" to be quite large to increase the contact area for the JB weld.

I have used H instead of I so the shape is obvious. The H will be rotated 90°. I hope that makes sense?

JB Weld may work, it is a wonder product.
I'd try it first and see if it survives the vibrations.

You mention not wanting to use screws, yet I'll mention rivets.
If not chrome, a couple of spot welds should be the ultimate cure.

Good luck.

Even if not chrome the heat will have an effect on the front face I would expect. Not as unsightly as you suggest if they are not chrome though.

It sounds like you are talking about the brackets that the screw clamp goes through? If you lost just one then maybe it's a non-issue? If it were me I try riding it without that one clamp and if it got to me I just order another heat shield 🤷‍♂️

The clamps on my V&H heat shields simply thread through a bracket and they are a separate item that can easily be replaced .

I have a different brand of exhaust, & had my heat shield brackets crack off on both pipes. I tried spot welding (with a cheap welder I'll add) & they didn't last long. I don't think JB weld will hold up to the vibrations, but won't hurt to try.
