I Bought an 883 motor the other day , was told Frame was totaled in wreck "cracked/ busted frame" so he had pulled motor and scrapped frame and wheels ... and no title anymore " motor on a shelf a year or so" ... found some numbers on crank case " lower front right " all numbers no letters 10 numbers only ... and I found another number set/thing " *CAM92026251* ... so I'm cofused on exactly what motor , size , manu date , etc. ....and how to get title without a vin# ... and not matching a frame and motor #'s1
Not sure when the bike/motor was built, but after 1970 the real VIN is on the frame and the motor had an abbreviated VIN. You might be SOL on the VIN, but check this out http://www.harley-performance.com/harley-vin.html
Ok... so all I need is a frame with a good title and build from there ? And if I read correct in all of that should there not be letters in the 10 digits on the motor ??? The first 7 should be if I'm correct 1HD1CAM....and the 10 on case should have some numbers and letters ??? I'm lost ..
The engine VIN may not have all of the last characters of the VIN on the frame. Unless you have some paperwork from the seller with the VIN from the frame on it, you may be SOL.
I do not have a frame as of yet , I was recently given 2-7 years left to live and my wife asked me what I had on my Bucket list and I only have a few #1 make amends to all family ☆ #2 . Married and a good family ☆ #3 own another truck " instead of cars " ☆ #4 own my last and final motorcycle " Harley Davidson" ...... and being I do not have the money to go buy a big fat Bike I decided to buy or barter and build myself a Harley Davidson , and it has been so much harder to get anything than I had thought , so when I bartered this for that for this and that and finally for a Harley Davidson 883 engine I thought I'm home free and as I'm finding out it may be harder than I can handle .... sorry to put my life out there but it let's you know more of why I ask all these questions ... cause if I can't use this engine I'm back to ground ZERO. AGAIN ....
The Crank case number is a truncated version of the VIN, (CAM) is a rigid mount XLH 883 (1986 - 2003). It may actually have come from a 1999 model (9), the last 6 digits are be the serial number (2026251).
