Just installed Vance and Hines Twin Slash Cut slip-ons on my 2017 sporty custom, and would like to add the Thunder Torque Inserts form DK Custom. Everything I have read tells me I should order the 158W. Don't want to make them any quieter just want to reduce some of the popping. The ID of the V&H stock baffle is 1.75" and the ID of the slip-on is 2.25". That leaves .312 clearance around the TTI when centered. Is this too much restriction for proper exhaust flow? The TTI will be pretty close to the outlet of the baffle being there is not a lot of tube left between the end of the baffle and the end of the slip on.
Appreciate the advise, thanks Chris.
I am running the same setup.
Started with W158s on stock baffles. Ended up happiest pulling baffles and running the W158s on the empty cans. Ran Vieds to richen fuel slightly and no popping.
Having tried both, the best sound comes with empty cans/w158s. IMHO.
Decel pop is a fuel management issue. In some cases it's user error,...staying "kinda" in the throttle instead of closing it while going down hill, between shifts, while slowing down, etc..
The TTI's are meant to give you back the low/mid range power you may have lost when going to open pipes. It's possible they prevent some decel pop by preventing some air from being sucked into your pipe which is igniting the fuel,....but that doesn't fix your problem,..it would mask it.
I have the same slip ons. Call DK and they will talk you through what you need. You need one size if you keep your baffles and a larger size if you take the baffles out. I didn't realize that until I gave them a call. That got me to thinking so I went out and pulled my baffles to see if I liked the sound of the bike and get the wife's approval with the loudness. I ended up leaving out the baffles and got the bigger TTI's.

Thanks for your interest in the TTI! Regarding the inserts, there is no right or wrong, black and white answer... It really depends on what you are hoping to get out of the inserts.
If you are wanting to cut down on the popping, maintain the current sound(just a little deeper), and relatively similar power band... I would suggest the 118 series. As you can see in hscic's very clean install photo, the TTI can be installed at the opening of the baffle itself
However, as Ratwerke said , with your particular exhaust you will see excellent results by removing the baffles completely and opting for the 158W.
You are always welcome to give us a call at the office to go over installion instructions, size options, various results etc...
Well I had ordered the 158W the following day of my original post. This afternoon I pulled the V&H slip-ons off the headers to figure out how I wanted to do the install with regards to drilling the mounting hole. Removed the screws that holds in the stock baffles and literally with the smack from my hand the baffles slipped right out! OK, I thought to myself this is going way too easy. I got to try the TTI's with empty cans. So I opened up the original screw hole to 5/16 diameter and installed the 158Ws centered with the cupped surface facing out. The stock V&H baffles will now be boxed up with the original HD muffles. Now I can't wait for the HD dealership to tell me my special ordered Screamin' Eagle Stage 1 air filter kit is in! Plan on installing myself and have the dealership remap the ECM.
Must add to my earlier comments....
The baffle-less cans with W158 TTI s get the most compliments from fellow riders regarding that 'just right' sound.
