Default Old new guy needs help

I need help!!!!

I have a 05 Sportster, 883, with security. I bought it from an individual and have enjoyed riding. Didn't get a security code. Didn't know I needed.

I was going for a ride the other day and no start. The battery is good, the Key fob is good,. the bike has responded to the key fob in the past. Now nothing.

I tried follow multiple threads from this site. Nothing works. I can bypass the starter relay and start the bike.

05 and Earlier TSM/TSSM Password Relearn & Fob Proceedure
is confusing. steps say, don't interrupt the ignition cycle, then quickly turn off-on. What the heck?

Doses your fuel pump prime and the red key and yellow engine light goes out when you turn the key on. If it doesn't you need a new battery for your key fob. Ask me how I know this. LOL!

The bike is carb, so the fuel is gravity fed.

I just put a new battery in the key fob sunday. Start button will not activate the relay to crank the engine. The relay is simple, single pole normal open. The coil of the relay is good. I can ground the low side of the relay and it will start. But the low side goes to the security module or TSSM, it is not working either of the signal lights (flashing) or will the bike respond to any of the actions list in the procedure to reset the code.

I thought for sure the 05's were ECM. I say the dealer is your best bet from here, unless someone else on here knows.

Have you checked that your 15 amp security fuse hasn't blown?
The fuse box area in your model bike is notorious for getting corroded.

Also, a bit simple I know, but are you 100% sure the battery for the fob was put in the correct way around.

Did the issue happen all of a sudden? When you bypass the starter relay, is the bike actually starting or just cranking?

Have you checked for trouble codes using speedometer diagnostics. A search on the forum should show you how to do the test if you haven't already.

You should have a second key and fob, so try them. If you don't have the Owners manual, to see how your security system works, you can download one on the H-D website - go to the Owners tab.
