I don't know about fixing the problem with the lock aligning properly, but never use wd-40 or any other wet lubricant on lock this will allow dirt and crud to gum up the works. The only thing to use on any lock is graphite.
wd-40 is not really a wet lubricant. The'carrier' is wet and evaporates almost immediately leaving a dry, yet slippery, surface. That is why Iused it to lube the cables on my dirt bikes.

I've got an 07, 1200 C, just around the 500 mile mark, the lock started acting up. I'm not that bad yet.

I have an '07 1200C - it was real hard to get it to work the first few times, but loosened up real quickly. I almost always lock the fork when I park it (even in the garage), and haven't hadany problems after the first dozen or so times I locked/unlocked it. Trama's problem may well go away after the lock gets broken in...

I have an '07 1200C and had problems with my fork lock at about 500-650miles, had it fixed during my 1,000mile service (which they screwed anyways....). but it was covered under warranty and seems to be working fine now. Since it was difficult to get in to get it fixed and that is my primary security when parking bike, I MADE it work. The only way I was able to get the forks to lock was to jiggle the crap out of the key while turning it, and it'd basically just vibrate around to lock lol otherwise it would not lock, period. would turn maybe 3-5degrees at best and bind up, then was difficult to turn key back to get my key out lol

I am with scottwilliamson on the graphite. It is the only thing you should ever use on any locks. I work on storefront locks all the time and peeps gum them up with wd40 all the time .
