Been married 44 years. She used to ride our little dual sport with me and by her self (off road), but she never got an M1 license. Today went for our first 2 up ride in years, on the back of my sporty. Just took a short 10 mile jaunt. We live on a hilly and winding road, so good practice for both.
I forgot to up the preload and could feel it bottom, but she never even noticed. Best part, seat was comfy for her. Our goal is to ride to Redwood Nat park this summer and meet her cousin. They live north of Seattle and ride a 2012 Ultra Limited. Redwoods is halfway between us at about 500 miles each.
Gonna do some gradually longer rides till we both feel ready. I need more luggage space for sure. Already have plans for some Viking Lamellar bags, and need to figure something for the rear. Currently has a short padded sissy bar, so will need a bar/platform for a trunk bag.
Might end up just going bigger on the bike, eventually. Those Ultras sure are nice looking.
You have a possible problem in your near future! Showing your wife an Ultra could be a life changing experience. Might be safer to steer clear of Harley dealers......

Grb is so right. I went in to buy a fatboy with the wife in tow, and walked out owning a Ultra.
Great that she is riding with you. I had a softail wife said let’s stop at Harley walked out with an ultra. She loves the ride. We did the Dragon in April here first time on a long winding road.
before purchasing any bags from Viking read the reviews on the forums. I had them on my softail and the would not stay closed. Customer service was useless, kept promising me replacement locks. Three weeks after I pulled them from my bike the new locks arrived. Guess what the were the exact same locks.
Thanks for the heads up. I was looking at them this morning, online, and comparing storage capacities, at these https://www.tsukayu.com/HardbagsforSportster.htm. They are almost twice the storage, and built better. A lot more money, so I think I will wait till I can get the Taukayu bags.
Funny thing about the Heritage and the ultra. That's almost exactly what happened with her cousin. He said when they rode to Sturgis, he saw how comfy the other spouses looked. When they got back he traded it in on a new 2012 Ultra.
Someday, maybe we will do the same. Baby steps for her riding for now. Want to make sure she keeps wanting to stay on the bike.
Just be sure when installing the bags, if you are going to use HD quick release mounts for sissy bar backrest or luggage rack, allow enough space between the bags. When I put on either one, I could not open the bag lids unless I remove the sissy/rack. And the further out you go the less stable the bags will be. Just something to think about.
