Oil cooler

Oil cooler
Hi fellow Riders,
i'm often stuck in traffic jams and some days the summer is very hot in this area. I'm new to air cooled engines so i'm wondering if an additional oil cooler is recommended to avoid overheating of the engine ?
My 883 was bored to 1200, so will it run "hotter" than the stock engine ?
Thanks
Cheers

The Alsace I know is in Northern France - we visited last summer - where is yours?!
As for air-cooled engines, they can get so darned hot that we, the mere rider, can feel as if we are being cooked! Meanwhile our bikes have been extensively tested in the Arctic and hottest deserts, so will be just fine! Will your bike be hotter than stock? Unlikely IMHO, as long as the ignition timing and fuelling are good. If you get stuck in stationary traffic learn a lesson from some modern vehicles, which automatically turn off the engine and turn yours off, when opportunity permits!

Sportys do not have the heat problem that the Twin Cams and Milwaukee-Eights have. But, running cooler will help on power, engine longevity and rider comfort, especially in traffic.

Another Option to cool down the Sporty a bit, AND make oil changes easier is an Oil Filter Relocation Upgrade.

yes Alsace is in the north east of France but related to continental type of climate, it can be the hottest spot in the country during the summer. Which town did you visit in Alsace ? Were you riding ?
May be you have noticed that we have our local language / dialect and we are good reason to not like the central bureaucracy of the french government. So we would like to have more independence like the states in the USA.
Thank you for your answers ;-)

Probably go with some good synthetic oil and don't worry about it. I have never read a post on this site or over on xlforum.net about a Sportster suffering any damage from sitting in traffic. Not one. Maybe someone can find some evidence, but I have none. I think you're bike will have no problem.
