My speedometer is being weird. It is not working and sometimes when I start it up it jumps to a random speed snd slowly goes back to zero or won't budge at all. It started after my battery died and never started back working after installing a new battery. Any ideas of how to fix this? Thank you
ok. I took the connectors off and back on. Now my neutral light is not coming on and the speedometer went to the furthest right it would go. I have a battery tender connection there. Could that be messing with my connect?
In all my sportsters, I’ve never had one pegged right. Reverse polarity?
I don’t see how neutral sensor or the light could be connected to the removal of the battery cables unless you grounded the positive on the frame before you removed the negative.
If the battery tender cable was compromised, that would be a short, smoke and fire to follow. That’s probably not the issue.
I did notice the speedometer clicking when i was reinstalling the battery. It makes an odd clicking noise when I turn the key on and off and then the speedometer jumps.
Check all your earth wire connections, there is one at the back of the primary near the starter motor, one at the back of the gearbox and one on top of the gearbox where the battery earth cable connects.
