I know it’s one extreme to the other but I’d like to change the stock bars on my 06 883. Either drag style or mini apes. If I do go with a drag bar I’m thinking I won’t need to change all my cables, amI right ?
1. For drag bars, where are you going to put all the slack? Wrapping cables doesn't really bode well w/ ops.
2. For mini-apes, definitely need cables as tight ones tend to do funny things when you turn.
Have to ask, why wouldn't you want to swap bars, and not cables? It's not a bad job, if do it right & know what you're doing...
I have installed drag bars on my 2011 XL883N, they suit my riding style and they are wide enough to give me plenty of control when riding.
I only changed the brake hose for a breaded stainless steel item with a black vinyl covering, it is 900mm long, that's the ideal length for my liking. I also swapped the stock zinc plated banjo bolts for black stainless ones.
You should choose the bars that suit your riding style, not just buying the bars that need the least spending on for for proper installation. 10" high bars is about the maximum you can install without changing the cables and brake hose.

I love the look of yours and the stretched out arms are more my style of riding. I would imagine an 06 is no different than a 11 in terms of size, right. Your clamp looks similar to mine.
what size bar is that ?

Thank you for your kind comments,
My drag bars are 1" diameter x 31" long, they are stainless steel with a matt black textured powder coating.
They have the dimples for the wiring, these bars should fit any rubber mounted XL Sportster model from 2004 to present, just make sure that the lower bars don't allow the switchgear housings to foul your fuel tank when going to full lock on either side.
I had to buy the handlebar clamp when I installed the rev counter kit, the 2011 Iron 883 just has a centrally mounted speedometer as stock with a single unit speedo holder and handlebar clamp. I much prefer to have a rev counter and the dual instruments fill the fairing nicely.
I bought my drag bars from the Alpha Rider store on AliExpress, they only cost me £23.40 ($27.49) including shipping to the United Kingdom.
