What's the highest speed you've went on your sportster? Was it stock, modified?
After I had my stock 2006 1200C broken in I hit 105 on the speedo then backed off once I saw a car in the distance ahead of me on the interstate. I'm sure it can go faster than that.
Edited to add: This post is not intended to encorage anyone to go over the posted speed limit or drive recklessly. I travel 70 miles a day round trip to work when the weather is over 40 degrees all interstate wearing full leather and full face helmet at the legal speed limit of 65 miles an hour. If I wipe out at 65 miles an hour I'll be toast anyway, but at least the leathers will make my body parts easier to find.
Truley accidental, got carried away "opening her up" on a strech of open "back roads" - 05 1200c, Stage one on a bet from a buddy that his "Brand new Chevy" would out run me anytime, any where - I toasted him @ 110mph - what slowed me down was a hugely loud buzing in my left ear, imediatly followed by a stining pain in my left side neck - the wind had caught the helmet strap - looked like an industrial sized vaccume hicky or one drunk horney chick let loose. Freaked me out, never knew it would go that fast and there was plenty more. One guy here - 1200c accualy has speed charts, or "top end" knowledge of different machines and there top end - I read one of his posts that the new 06 trannie, while much smother in 2-5 due to the new design, has a lower top end - guys a fountian of info - he could clue you in - or set me straight.
'72 XLCH, stock motor - 120 mph by speedo (1973)
'72 XLCH, 77 inch stroker motor - 135 - 140 mph by Wisconsin cop estimate; too bad 'cause there was more left! (1976)
'73 XLH, stock motor - 115 mph by speedo (1977)
'84 XLX, stock motor - 105 mph by speedo (1985)
'72 XLCH, stock motor - 120 mph by speedo (1999)
And for good measure:
'78 FLH, stock motor - 115 mph by speedo (1981)
'87 FLST, stock motor, SE ignition module - 115 mph by speedo, 2 up (2003)
I've got my 05 1200C up to 80 miles once and didn't like it one bit! I prefer to stick to 70 or below and leave the racing to others. I'm in no hurry to die!
