After I put another 1000 miles on my bike after the 1000k, I had to add a quart of oil. I called the stealer and they said it was normal. I did the 2500 maintance and now have 3200 miles. I checked it the other day and it's a half a quart low. What do you all think? It would be nice to get other opinions.
Mine's in the shop now, Dropped it off this morning. I found the second oil leak in 2 months since I bought her. First was a oil line hose that was loose and it was noticable. oil dripped on the floor.
This leak never dripped on the floor, it's up around the counter shaft, so the oil is getting flung off while riding. The only reason I found it was I noticed alittle oil on the bottom of the side case. Dust is what made it noticable. it collected dirt. When looking up under the side cover, oil was everywhere.
Hope this is the last problem for awhile, if not I'll be selling it!
3600 miles and 2 oil leaks, this should never happen
Well the whole bike is dry as a bone. A/C everything that I can tell is dry. I put just under a half of a quart of oil and 4 ounces of Lucas in it. I'll check it after The North Texas Ride 4. I'm sure I'll put at lease 400 more miles on the bike by the end of that one.
Have an 2006 XL1200L, 7500 Miles, Not one drop of oil un accounted for. I would be pissed if i had two leaks in under 4k. I have had head gasket leaks and a bad crank case sensor and it was a big enough head ach for me. Take Care
While the MoCo says 1 quart in 1k is acceptable, I say it's not. My Twin Cam needs zero oil added between changes, neither does my Ironhead.........However, I have my Ironhead's original owner's manual. It says that 1 quart every 500 miles is acceptable.....For the same year, the Big Twins acceptable oil usage rates were stated to be 1 quart every 250 miles...Imagine that.

Yep, I am. it's a shame too cause I really like the bike.
