This thread has given me an itea, I've just bought a universal motorcycle battery isolator on the eBay UK site for Ł4.99 including delivery. It isn't too large and can be fastened to a battery terminal.

Once the BCM loses power there will be no security system. It will lose power when the maxi fuse is pulled.

Seems like it would be easier to just plug the tender in.

And be more likely to strand you in a motel parking lot if you take a trip because you didn't know your battery was shot.

The manufacturer of the battery recommends that you don't use a tender unless it's going to sit for a month or so:

And manufacturer has no incentive to reduce the life of your battery, does it? It's not like they want to sell you another battery or anything like that.

All I can tell you is I have kept every Harley I have owned for the last 25+ years plugged in 24/7 and I have had batteries last anywhere from 6 to 9 years.
