Bought my wife a cherry 2002 883 Custom for her 50th. She took the course and has had a ball her first season. The stock mirrors shook all over the place so you couldnt see a damn thing behind you, so we went with shorter replacments. They shake and you cant see past your shoulders.
We really need a solution.....its bad enough when I jump on it and I've been riding 35 years. I'm sure its primarily the handlebars of the Custom, but I dont want to replace them.
A common complaint. I have a 2005 custom which has a rubber mounted engine, I can only image what a 2002 is like. I installed a set of riser bushings between the triple tree and the handle bar riser. It helped some but still not great. Another thing I have heard of is putting weights inside the handle bar ends, but I haven't tried this.Good luck
I have a 2000 883 custom with drag barsand the mirrors vibrate something horrible. I have tried shorter mirrors and a few other things but nothing seems to matter, I have come to the conclusion that I will never be able to read the license plate numbers on vehicles behind me but as long as I can see lights and objects and if they are close or not that will just have to do. Is this just a sportster issue, do other Harleys have this problem I guess I never asked anyone that rides a different model.
take them off?????? they tend not to vibrate hanging on the garage wall.
seriously, i too ride a '02. blurr city! I have heard, but never tried, a roll of coins in the bars.?. of course with my luck the dang sleeve would break open and then my mirrors would shake and the bike would sound like one of those damn monkey's playing the symbols!
I have drag bars and yes I cannot see much of anything directly behind me, unless you go with the long stem mirrors the best you will do is see what's along side you or your arms and shoulders. I hate the look of the long stem mirrors so I just deal with the fact I won't see whatever is flying up behind me so I best go fast all the time!
I forgot to add, if you get these you will need the spacer for the right side...
I tried all kinds of mirrors till I found some that didnt have all that vibe. They are the blazingasshole mirrors from texas thump
I dont know if you can get them without the logos if thats offensive to you but heres the link. an excellent improvement.
~BTW~ if you rev over 5.5k any mirrors will shake...

Anybody got any ideas?
Upgrade to an '04 or newer with the rubber mounted engine. WORLD of difference.
