Very glad to hear that your husband is okay. I must agree with the others in regard to the owner's negligence. I do feel bad for the dog... But... Human life is far more sacred... There needs to be more strictly enforced loose animal laws, to help avoid situations like this.

I'd find it hard to go for the throat with the owners of the dog; they have lost something that cant be replaced and is not freely available on ebay or HD. Ya cant kick a man while he is down, if that dude has kids, their night is probably not going too well for them all right now.
While thats all nice and all, look at it this way. If the owner really cared, cared about the dog and other people, the dog would not have been running freely. Why should the rider who went down because of this carelessness have to bear the brunt of all the aftermath and its carnage? Sure, don't kick a man when he's down, but that same man should be made to own up to his/her responsibilities of dog ownership. Pick up the poop and pay for all damages.

I'm glad no one was seriously hurt.

I agree - dog ownerneeds to take some liability - should at least pay for all expenses. Unless they're in a real rural area, most likely some leash laws are in effect.

Glad he's okay - he'll be in some pain for the next few days.

Glad your husband wasn't hurt to seriously. Best wishes on fixing the bike.

I personally would look to make the dogs owner pay for the repairs & hospital bills , it wasn't your fault the dog ran into the street. I would simply tell them they need to make the repairs. If they think otherwise, hire a lawyer and nail there A$$ to the wall!!!!! but give them the chance to be responsable first.

It has nothing to do with kicking someone while they are down, But has everything to do with being responsable for your actions! Something alot of folks don't want to do anymore.

Hope he heals quickly! That had to be terrible to watch. And I agree that they should be held liable for any and all costs related to this incident that your insurance doesn't cover.

I had problems with my neighbor's pitbull mix (and2 other large dogs) chasing me on my bike. The Pit was very aggressive and nipped my boot once. I tried talking to them to no avail. Too lazy to clean up the poop...easier to let them run. So, I bought a humane dog trap and caught the dogs when they came on my property. Then I made a stink with the dog law deputythat I wanted them fined. (up to $300 per dog) Haven't seen the dogs out since. The dogs are safer and so am I.

very very sorry to hear about this accident. I pray for a very speedy recovery for your husband. I am happy that it wasn't any worse for him or yourself. very scary.

regarding the dog.. Sad, but the dog should not have been running loose.A Scary reminder of what can happen out there.

regarding cats...yeah, someone mentioned the awful cats running around the neighborhood. got news for you, that's what cats do. yeah, some live indoors, but a lot roam.My neighborsLOVE my roaming cat as he has ridden the neighborhood of vermin.I have never heard of my cat hurting any children. and they're generally smart enough not to charge at motorcyclists. Are we gonna start keepign squirrels indoors too now???either way, i would NEVER swerve out of the way of a CAT!! Dog, yeah, they're real big sometimes, but a cat?! Hit it square, do not swerve or brake... Your life is worth more than the cat's.

Again, Stargazer...not to get off topic... I am so glad that both of you are OK (for the most part), and I hope your husband heals up quickly.

I am glad your husband is ok and wish him nothing but a speedy recovery. I have 2 dogs, maybe once or twice a year they get out of the fence and go wondering and I am quick to solve the problem. It isthe exception, not the rule when my dogs get out. However, when my lab got into my neighbors chicken coop I was quick with my wallet as it is my dog and my responsibility. 15 dead chickens later my neighbors and I still talk and have no issues, but, I did fix the fence.
