If I do a stage 1 on my 05 1200 will it void my warranty?
NO, it will not void the warrantee. If you do a mod an IT causes a system or part of your engine/bike to need warrantee work, THEN they will have to proove that the work you did caused the damage to not be elligable for warrantee work. If you were to run lean and burn a valve or piston, THEN you voided the warrantee by what you did on that part only. If you add the stage 1 to your bike, you need to richen up the mixture whether it be carbed or FI.(in your case carbed)
What he said :-) A dealer may try to avoid warranty work, but be insistent - it's your right! Service-oriented dealers won't give you any problems at all.
Also, the service manual even implicitly recognizes that work will be done by parties other than the dealer (why even sell service manuals, right?) - and recommends that work be done by a knowledgeable person with the right tools.
Do the Stage 1, always keep receipts and records for work you do, and you'll be covered.
Good luck!
