Locktite cannot be reused.......it's chemical makeup is such that it only sets up when NOT exposed to Oxygen.....So in the bottle, it remains liquid cause 02 is present in area above the liquid, but once trapped/confined to the super tiny area provided by the fastener threads where 02 is not, it sets up.....The color determines how hard it sets....Red locktite is considered perminant whereas blue allows stiff breakaway torque, but should allow you to remove fastener without breaking it.
I served 20 years on nuclear submarines as a mechanic.....We torqued everything to specs and locktite is in my blood.
While we are on the subject, fastener torque is an indirect way to measure bolt stretch....Bolt stretch provides clamping force....All fasteners should be wirebrushed clean to remove old thread sealants before torqueing so you can get an accurate reading.....Threaded holes should also be chased clean with taps to remove old thread sealant for the same reason.....certain fasteners should be lubed before torqueing......bolt torque is a science with no room for old wive's tales.

Let's go with bolt torque.
If your bolt is steel and the threaded hole is aluminum, then you will be distorting the threads in the aluminum & going to need a Helicoil very soon. You can set a torque spec low and not elastically distort the threads, by keeping the spec in the plastic rangeyou can reuse athreaded fastenerwithout worrying about it being worn out. Know your ft-lbs from your in-lbs!
I use it on EVERYTHING, its great stuff. My bike would fall apart everytime I rode it if it wasnt for locktite
I have had women tell me they wanna take my footpegs home it vibes so good. Thing about LT is you just need a dab and just at thetip of the thread. You can screw up stuff bad using too much locktite especailly if its red...
ORIGINAL: farns
I use loc-tite, I use a torque wrench for critical things like head bolts etc.
I cheat and do what I have to depending on what I have on hand when doing a repair.
OK lets all do a little test now:
get your pens and paper ready
TEST=1
get any size bolt and nut laying around and put some blue loctite on it (chap stick kind )
just put nut on end of bolt ,screw on till flush
then let dry over night and then you will have your answer
