Let's say a guy wanted to remove the stainless strip on his custom modelgas tank.....What's the procedure and what can he expect to see once it's off?....Is the tank painted beneath it, or will it leave an ugly stripe?
I took mine off on my custom. Just get some dental floss, rip a long, long piece, and then double braid it and holding it, work it back and forth as you move along under the strip, it will cut through two strips of glue tape adhesive. Take your strip off, and then use a little pb decal remover OR pb blaster, to gently remove the leftover glue adhesive (I rubbed lightly with a fingernail and an old sockand it all came off finally) . I was really happy with the result, I wondered the same thing for a long time if the tank was all one piece. I replaced my gas cap with a flush mount pop-up after that, and learned how to do all this right here on the forum. Was a fun mod and really good result.
I recently added a tank trim panel to my bike. The installation instructions included the procedure for removing the old trim panel.HD says to use the fishing line method then remove as much adhesive with your fingers as possible.Clean tank surface with a mixture of 50 to 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30 to 50% distilled water.
