Default Turn Signal???

I have a 89 883 that I have been messing with and the L turn signal will not work. I have checked both front and back bulb and they are fine. Any ideas where to look or start next? Thanks Bryan

1. Where on the bike have you been "messing" with it?
2. Did the L signal work before "messing" with it?
3. The R signal works OK and it's just the L that won't work??

By messing with it I meant, rebuild the carb, new battery and just over all maint. I have not messed with the wireing at all and I am not sure the L worked before, since the old battery was toast. Yes the R works just as it is suppose to. Sorry I did not clarify myself. Bryan

OK.

For starters, I would swap the right bulbs for the left bulbs, one at a time, and see what happens. If they work, it's in one of the bad bulbs, if not, swapout the flasher with a new one. If that does not solve the problem, I'd start looking for a ground fault in the wire to the rear and then tothe front. You can always search for the ground fault before swapping out the flasher, but personally I hate looking for wiring problems, so I'd take the easy route first.

If the 89 wiring is the same as my 2000, the turn signal wires have a connection right behind the carb up on the frame.....Maybe you bumped a connection loose.

Thumper: Turns out that someone had spliced a few wires togther in the headlight bucket (along time ago by the looks of it). Once I figured out which one was cracked or broken (causing a short) it was an easy fix! All works well now. Thanks for your help as well as the others. This is why I love this website!! Bryan

Great electrical sleuthing! Glad you were easily able to resove the issue. Nothing like the satisfaction of successfully troubleshooting an electrical problem in my book! I simply have very little patience for the tedious testing and tracking involved. I'm really glad you're all fixed up and ready to go - great job!
