I chopped the stock mounting bracket in half, did some minor mods then bolted it to where the old headlight was mounted. I wanted to keep the speedo as close to the tree as possible.
I also did the hole in the lower tree. I bought an extra lower tree on eBay and had it drilled and powder coated.
I bought the two-hole speedo bracket found on non-nightster non-custom xl's and mounted it on the upper tree by having the holes on the bracket drilled a little.
Depending on the headlight shape, you may need a mounting block to offset it from the neck as I did.
A lot of people get a stock street bob headlight (looks like nightster's but bottom mount) and mount the nightster's trim ring on it.
