Some may know that I am trying to go a new tank route and I would say I have 80% of everything I need. I still got to do little odds and ends like front tank mounts and wiring all the stuff like speedo and fuel pump. Well this week end I was sitting around the garage and my dad says "I don't think you should put that tank on it won't look as good as the peanut" Now my dad don't ride but use to before I popped into the picture so I value his opinion seeing that he gave up bikes to become a family man. Also he never owned a Harley and I get the feeling he's proud of what I've done with myself to get where I am (even if it's JUST a sportster) He always trash talked my bikes when I owned non american made scoots. Anyway back to my dilemma, I still want to do the tank but the other part of me wants to build a rigid bobber using a sporty motor (keeping it real of course) and with multiple people telling me don't do the tank swap I'm starting to think not to do it and pursue the bobber. I didn't fabricate anything on my bike yet so in other words the tank project hasn't made it far enough to damage my wallet except the 700 I got sunk into parts so far just sitting around my bedroom floor, parts that not only I could sell to help fund the bobber but getting rid of em will mean no more money I will have to spend to get the tank on.
I would really love to do the tank, finish that project, and start a bike but I hate waiting. Plus I got a lot of people trying to persuade me from putting a large tank on my bike and I'm not one to listen to others opinions but my dads opinions sure count.
I'm confused[sm=confused06.gif] What do you guys think?
this is the fatbob tank right? I think it would be different you could have one of the photoshop wizzzes on the forum do up a pic to help you decide, i figure it'd be too big of a hassle to sell back all the parts but its up to you.
Yeah selling back parts would suck but it's not the money I'll get from the parts its the money I'm saving from not finishing the project. Besides the tanks will sell easy, the fat bob console will sell quick on here theres always someone looking for one, and the fuel pump is a toss up, it could go easy but it might not. I was all for cutting into my wiring harness to adapt the plugs to fit the new fuel pump and speedo but now I don't wanna mess with a new bike, thats kinda why I wanna build a bobber so I can mess with that and leave my bike mint condition.
I think the peanut tank is the best looking, in fact to me it is the most recognizable piece of Harley Davidson heritage. So I say keep it on the XLN, and save the fatbob tank for your project bike. Good luck!
hell two bikes would be a great thing, wish i could do it too i want a sportster again. i though you were turning the nightster into a bobber, i thought the gas tank would be cool on the nightster but having a bike to ride while working on a project would be better i think than having a larger gas tank. im still curious of what it would look like.

I actually wanted to use the stock peanut for the project bike (obviously sealing up the fuel pump hole first) It would be cool to have a bobber made by myself using the peanut tank off my first harley. Kinda symbolic ya know. But I don't wanna wait till I finish that project and summers here and I don't wanna waste even a minute of not riding my bike cause it's apart having new tank put on.[:'(] I actually bought the tank cause it was a good deal and I was going to hold onto it till winter but for some reason I got bored with the shitty new england weather and decided I wanted to start it in spring........what was I thinking Around here we can only ride 8 months a year giver or take and realistically I can only ride 5/6 months comfortably in nice weather.

It would look kinda like this only mounted to a nightster
No offense to anyone but I was never a fan of the bar clamp speedo on sportsters, (or dynas, for those models that also had it) I really would like to move it to the tank.
