My brother and I both have '08 1200 C (mine is anniversary edition)...anyway here is what happened. We both have around 500 miles on them within a day of each other we had the same tranny issue:at a light we could not get it to shift down into first. After rocking the bike and shifting back and forth finally got it into gear. Anyone had this happen before? Any ideas of what it could have been....it only happened to us each once and hasn't happened since.
I have had the same issue when pulling into the garage in second and forgetting to shift into first before killing it, it is a pain.
I did too until I got in the habit of shifting into first as I made the turn from the street into the driveway. It gives you an excuse to rev the throttle one more time and let the neighbors know, I'm baaack.
It probably only happened the one timebecause you are now finding 1st before stopping. Next time you forget you can always start in 2nd and get some practice using that friction zone.
Rare, but it happens, on pretty much all bikes. Carsdo ittoo. You did the right thing - just rocked it back and forth a little bit. I know I should hold my bike in first gear at a stop, but I'm in the habit of finding N while coasting to a stop. You probably won't have it happen again for a long time; if it does, just rock it back and forth again.
