Hey guys, my friend has a 07 sportster 1200c and when he is going to the road the engine light will come on and off. It first started when he started it up and the engine light would stay on for about 10 seconds. The dealership said that his battery was low that why the light was comming on. he put a new battery on and it is still doing it. Any help is apreciated.
Yes has DTC (probably from low battery) in history. Write down then clear. Restart bike and see if it reappears. If it does it is a current code, if not should it's a history code and engine light will go away.
I have a similar symptom in my '05 1200C. I always have the engine light come on at start up for a couple seconds if I don't wait for it to go off after I turn the run switch to "run". I think that is normal.
I occasionally have the engine light come on while riding - after an extended time cruising at a relatively low rpm (not lugging but maybe 5th gear at 60 mph) - it then goes out a minute or so after downshifting. I wonder if the stator is putting out less amps than I am using at the lower rpm, cuasing a low battery voltage? - checking the DTC codes shows no codes.
Since mine goes away after increasing the rpm. I basically ignore it. - Might consider Shu" electrical tape solution though.
