I don't really care much about what others say. My 1200xlc is great, with all that mid-range torque it's just pure FUN to ride. I just dont' think I would be putting as many miles on the bike if it wasn't fun. Of course I'm more into what I like than what others like, I really got some odd looks yesterday when test riding the VSCR's, but I tell you that low setting V-Rod with 115 stock hp will rank up there with my Sporty for fun, and would fit a girl just fine too.
i also say the only people that will give you **** about it are people who dont ride. I just bought my sportster this weekened. Now my dad and his friends and a couple other guys i know ride the big bikes. I told them i wanted to buy a sportster and they were like hell ya man. I asked them if they would make fun of it because they had bigger bikes. And they all said no because they all had sportys in the past and loved them
My new Sportster 1200Low is the envy of all my biking friends....and I really won't worry about people laughing at me...my other bike (which gets the most miles on it) is a 2005 Genuine Stella......"real bikers" love and little thing.....only YOBs (Yuppies On Bikes) laugh at it......
Just tell em to " suck your d-ck". Poser's are the only ones who think sportys are ladies bikes. My first HD was a 83XLX. Wish I still had it. Tell the d-ckheads to buy a few books on HD history.
I came from a long line of Jap sport bikes and cruisers. I had only ridden one HD in the past and it was a 1980 something Sportster. I tried an 02 sportster a few months back and bought it on the spot. I was shocked at how well it handled. I remembered the one that I rode briefly years ago not stopping well. This one stops on a dime. People may still have a bad taste from the Sportsters of old. I dont think I have ever owned or ridden a cruiser that performed like a Sportster. Especially for the price. Next time they give you grief, ask them if they would care to run against you. Ill bet they all shut up after the first one looses.
